The Future of Parenting Strategies: What works in supporting vulnerable families?

Care Matters Partnership & Parenting UK
Date: 2 March 2010

Location: London

Work with families at risk is increasingly recognising the positive outcomes experienced when interventions happen early rather than waiting until a family has reached breaking point, and of getting both parents involved in fixing the problems. Supporting parents and families, whether it is through the family nurse partnership, social workers, a parent support adviser, or other channels, will make a critical difference for the future of vulnerable families.

In response to the work being done around the country to support vulnerable families, this unique one day conference will focus on developing strategy, engagement with parents and families and best practice examples from across the UK.

Through a series of speeches and workshops delivered by key members of the parenting workforce, delegates will be given the opportunity to explore the impact of parenting strategies and how parenting practitioners are working to support vulnerable families.

Delegates will:

•Learn and share best practice on Parenting Strategies from across England
•Gain an overview of how to respond to emerging policy focusing on evidence based research
•Learn and share best practice on commissioning parenting services identifying needs, identifying providers and developing the market
•Improve their understanding of how to engage and consult with parents, as well as how to challenge them
•Deepen their understanding of the relationship between home and school learning, be it through extended schools or family-based support for early learning
•Gain an insight into working with diverse local communities.
The conference is aimed at all practitioners who work to support parents, including: Directors of Commissioning, Parenting Commissioners, Health Visitors, School Nurses, Extended Schools Co-ordinators, Child mental health workers, Children and family social workers, Service Managers Parent Support Advisors.
