Where is the Charity Tribunal?

Although we reported in our December issue of Caritas that ‘The Tribunal is still on track to open in February 2008’, all has gone very quiet since the closing date of 31 July 2007 for the positions of President and Legally Qualified Panel Members (the job descriptions can still be viewed on www.judicialappointments.gov.uk).
One unnamed legal professional who had applied for a Panel Member role, eventually got his interview in December 2007 having first being told October. He won’t know the results of his interview in spring 2008, which does suggest the February launch date is not at all likely.
The Tribunals Service however, told Caritas magazine ‘We are still working to February 2008 as being the start date for the Charity Tribunal. Website information about the tribunal will be available at that time. Recuitment is currently taking place, although the legislation does allow for the Tribunal President, who will be announced shortly, to hear cases alone. This was factored into the appointment timetable’
