Leading a third sector organisation (TSO) is a tough job. As someone told me recently, ‘it’s like juggling balls in the air while riding a unicycle’. It feels that way because it involves a lot of skill, not least that of balancing priorities while keeping your eye out to avoid collisions. You’ll have good days – you might even get the odd round of applause when things go well. But it can also be a lonely existence, no matter how supportive and effective staff and trustees are because, ultimately, it’s you who takes responsibility.
