No board undertakes a governance review lightly, but consideration of governance arrangements, structures and procedures have risen in significance, importance and impact. Board assessments, reflections and reviews have become a priority for organisations and these processes are important tools to overhaul their governance or fine-tune their governance arrangements (see Richard Jones’ First Person). Third sector organisations are collecting evidence to demonstrate to their stakeholders, and funders that the systems and processes in place are fit for purpose and to ensure that the board’s governing muscles are strong, more focused and efficient.
