With the economy still reeling from the economic downturn, redundancies and cutbacks are never far from the headlines. For some people it has been a horrendous time, but for a group of recent graduates the recession has provided an unexpected opportunity to volunteer their time to good causes; and also provided charities with the opportunity to benefit from the skills of this new generation of young professionals. Volunteering organisations need to capitalise on this quickly if there is to be mutual gain from the current economic climate.
