Emily Unwin explains why environmental impact is a key governance consideration for trustees
The environment and sustainability are topics that have rocketed up the agenda in public and private sectors alike, with climate change recognised as a profound threat to the wellbeing of the planet and humankind.1 With this increase in awareness has come a realisation that the environment and climate change are as much social and economic issues as they are environmental. It then becomes clear that environmental concerns are relevant to all, not just traditionally ‘green’ organisations.
