Petra Ingram talks about eyesight, equines, international operations and leadership
What drew you to an operational finance career?
I went straight into accountancy from school and was qualified at 21, I wasn’t that bothered about university – I’d thought about doing chemistry but then wondered what it would add to my career. I took a corporate treasury role at Duracell, which involved the management of cash across Europe during their IPO. After the Gillette takeover in 1996, I worked on a successful shared financial service project.

Petra Ingram became CEO of The Brooke on 1 July 2009 having previously held the role of director of resources. The Brooke reaches 700,000 animals each year across
ten countries and celebrates its 75th anniversary this year, having been founded in Cairo by Dorothy Brooke. Prior to this, Petra worked at Sightsavers International as director of finance, planning and services. She has extensive experience in both the not-for-profit and commercial sectors. Petra is also a keen horse rider and vice chair of her local riding club. She is involved with the British Horse Society at area level.
