Major scale
The Million Pound Donors Report is now in its second year. Beth Breeze provides some further illumination on this important, but little-understood, area of giving
Philanthropy has grown in prominence in recent years. Since the turn of the millennium there has been more media coverage of philanthropic acts, including announcements of large donations, and newspaper profiles of individual philanthropists who are also showcased in broadcast media such as Channel 4’s Secret Millionaire [1]. As a result of this increased exposure, it is probably fair to say there is a greater appreciation of the role that philanthropic funding plays in our society. But it is also fair to note that the growing prominence of philanthropy has not been accompanied by very much robust information about what is actually going on in terms of the scale, the destination and the impact of philanthropic giving.
