Charities have recently come under fire for spending donor funds on litigation. However, sometimes there is no other option. Verity Roberts sets out some protection measures for trustees
Unfortunately charities are not immune to litigation. In addition to the obvious disputes a charity may face, such as a challenge following a donation left in a will, charities can also face the same issues you would expect to arise at any company; from employment matters and contractual disputes to negligence actions and intellectual property infringements. A charity must balance the need to bring proceedings in worthwhile cases while running the risk of misperception that they are wasting donations on costly legal fees.
