2009 was a difficult year for many NGOs dependent on a voluntary income and, in uncertain times, the value and safety of a diversified income becomes even more appealing. Increasingly, corporate partnerships are becoming an important growth area for NGOs in the search for long-term security. Development NGO Sightsavers and Standard Chartered Bank have been working together since 2003 in what was initially a standard sponsorship-style partnership. Since then the partnership has grown into Seeing is Believing, the Bank’s global community investment programme, a cornerstone in Standard Chartered’s approach to a sustainable business.
