David Malone takes a look at the vital components of effective charity trusteeship
Trustees are the architects of giving in this country; they play a pivotal role in the culture and co-ordination of charities from the top down. Today, some 820,000 trustees are responsible for the management of over 170,000 charities in the UK; which, accordingly, makes them responsible for over £41bn of capital to be put towards the public’s benefit.

David Malone is a member of the Institute for Philanthropy’s, Think Philanthropy, team, assisting in the research and creation of the Institute's research papers.
He has worked for an EU/UN-funded NGO in Croatia, returning to the UK to complete an MA in research methodologies and an MPhil focusing on planning and land development issues in the West Balkans.
