In England, the regional and sub-regional levels of public sector decision-making seem to have grown in recent years – with economic development and regeneration a particularly important focus. The regional development agencies, learning and skills councils, city regional partnerships and employment and skills boards – to name but a few – all have an important role to play in setting the strategic direction for our regions and sub-regions.
