The current economic conditions have had a significant impact on the commercial property market (see viewpoint article, Caritas, Issue 9, August 2008). Landlords and tenants of business premises of any nature should consider what they can do to take full advantage of the property downturn if leases have ended or are due to end shortly. This article explains the consequences of having security of tenure, the lease renewal process and highlights some tactics of which landlords and tenants should be aware when renewing leases.
