It may surprise many that over 60 per cent of the newly merged Age Concern and Help the Aged’s income comes from commercial operations. We have the third largest chain of charity shops in the UK and a significant enterprise operation selling, for example, insurance, energy, training and personal alarm products, with the aim of addressing market weaknesses for older people and generating profits to invest back into the charity.
