CPD on a budget
Fiona Duncan offers some training tips and resources for non-profit organisations
The US business woman Mary Kay Ash once said: ‘People are definitely a company’s greatest asset.’ Although this is considered a great truism within the voluntary sector, it is also true that we are guilty of de-prioritising investment in our people and often approach their continuous professional development (CPD) in a random and inconsistent way. In August 2008, the UK Workforce Hub published a report called Third Sector Skills Research 2008: Further evidence and recommendations on skills gaps [1] which showed that smaller organisations generally take a more ad hoc approach to learning.
