Catholic Care wins gay adoption challenge
Catholic Care, the charity providing adoption services to the Catholic Community...
...has succeeded in a last-ditch-attempt at the High Court to escape regulations which could prevent it from excluding gay couples. As previously reported in Caritas, the Equality Act (Sexual Orientation) Regulations 2007 made such discrimination unlawful.
The charity lost its challenge in the Charity Tribunal to an earlier Charity Commission decision that it should not be allowed to vary its objects to allow the exclusion of gay couples as prospective adoptive parents.
See Solicitors Journal for further details and a full review of the case will follow in the April issue of Caritas magazine - publishing on 26 March 2010.
