Calling all health provision volunteers
The Department of Health published its strategic vision for volunteering in health and social care
It is designed to engage everyone working in the health and social care system, including acute, mental health and community NHS services, NHS foundation trusts, local authorities and partner organisations in the voluntary, community and wider third sectors.
Care Services minister Phil Hope points out that ‘volunteering benefits patients and service users, and gives volunteers invaluable experience that they might not get in their everyday work and life. Research has shown that there are health and well being benefits for volunteers too.’
The strategy aims to raise the profile of volunteers and increase their involvement, improve the evidence base for investment in volunteering, promote best practice, get rid of obstacles, making it more accessible and facilitate change to support its delivery.
The document also sets out how those receiving care can, in turn, become volunteers themselves.
