Call to take an international bequest and legacy survey

An international survey to find out more about how charities and non profits around the world are doing when it comes to legacy income has been launched by Give Green Canada and CharityVillage®.
The survey was developed in consultation with the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), Partnership for Philanthropic Planning, USA (PPPnet), Canadian Association of Gift Planners (CAGP-ACPDP), European Association for Philanthropy & Giving (EAPG), and the Showcase for Fundraising Innovation and Inspiration (SOFII) UK, among others.
If you work in the nonprofit sector, and you are an executive director/CEO, development or advancement director, fundraising and marketing director, gift planner and/or an estate administrator, then the researchers would like to hear from you. Trust officers at financial institutions are also invited to take the survey. Completion takes about 15 minutes.
The questions include some fairly detailed profile and procedural information and you would need to be in a position to provide estimates of:
- Annual legacy income
- Average gift values
- How many other charity bequests are in included in the will containing your gift
- Does the volume of ‘sharing’ charities delay your eventual receipt of funds from the estate?
- Salary costs of staff working on legacy fundraising and legacy administration,
You also need to have a converter at hand to convert all currencies to US dollars. The actual questions are a very useful barometer of legacy fundraising and marketing best practice and it is worth making the effort to complete it as a basic audit tool.
The results will be made available in January 2011.
