Our approach is always results focused, open and straightforward. Whether you're setting up a charity or need advice or help with running an existing charity, we can help.

How can we help?

Our dedicated Charity and not-for-profit team acts for many large national and international charities, as well as an array of charitable trusts, associations, schools, colleges, universities, religious organisations and other social enterprise partnerships.

We advise on pure charity law and provide practical commercial advice to active charities. We also train trustees and officers in their roles and responsibilities and keep them updated on all developments affecting the not for profit sector.

Our tax and trust experts can prepare annual accounts and returns to the Charity Commission. Our associated asset management company, Thesis Asset Management, can provide a comprehensive fund management service.

Our charities and not-for-profit services

  • Charity trusteeship - advice on your duties and responsibilities and your personal liabilities and guidance on how you can protect yourself.
  • Charity establishment - we run through your options to find the best charitable vehicle for you and guide you through registration, constitutions and governance.
  • Existing charities - advice on the scope of an existing charity's powers and amendments to its governing document.
  • Restructuring of charities - including de-mergers or the creation of separate trading companies. We also advise on financing and fund-raising or the receipt of legacies.
  • Administration of charities – preparing annual accounts and returns to the Charity Commission; development and implementation of formal policies for all aspects of a charity's activities; audits or independent examinations of larger charities.
  • Winding up of charities – we see you through the winding up process, addressing asset transfer and disposal and help deal with the Charity Commission if required.
  • Property matters – acquisition, sale and management of property. We have also developed a unique property portfolio management database system.
  • Employment issues – all matters relating to employment by a charity.
  • Intellectual Property – copyright, trade mark registration and Internet use.
  • Litigation – when disputes arise we'll negotiate hard for a swift and amicable settlement, but fight hard for you in court as a last resort.
