AdviceUK is the largest network of independent advice centres in the UK. We have nearly 900 member agencies working in some of the poorest areas of the UK to help over 2 million vulnerable people every year.

Work such as our BOLD campaign on behalf of the advice sector allows our members to have a strong voice with central and local government. In order to support these activities and help our members to do what they do more efficiently, we run a number of services and activities – many of which are open to advice centres outside the AdviceUK membership:

Insurance

AdviceUK has been helping our members have access to appropriate cost effective insurance since the early 1980s. In 2006 we created VCS Insurance to offer cover for :

  • Professional indemnity
  • Trustees, directors and officers

We also work closely with other organisations to offer cover for:

  • Legal assistance and expenses
  • Public and employers liability with office contents

All these insurance products are designed around the needs of advice centres and are open to any free advice centre.

AdvicePro

Developed by AdvicePro and Resolution Case Management, AdvicePro is a secure online case management system designed to meet the complex and changing needs of those agencies working in social welfare advice.

Working to the highest levels of internet security available today it can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection including PDAs – no more carrying around heavy files.

The creation of AdvicePro was guided every step of the way by advice centres, and AdvicePro’s development continues to be directed by the agencies that use it.

Different versions of AdvicePro are available depending on your needs:

  • Student Unions
  • Debt
  • Immigration
  • Legal Services Commission funded work

The programme is also available in Essential, Standard and Premium versions to suit all centres and budgets. New functionality to help advice centres dealing with domestic violence cases will appear late 2009.

We are the only advice-sector specific and A-standard Assessment Centre for NVQs through City & Guilds and offer NVQs in:

·         Advice and guidance

·         Management

·         Working with substance abuse

·         Customer service

We also run training courses throughout the year on advice work including:

  • Learning to advise
  • Train the trainer
  • Advice centre management
  • Receptionist skills
  • And many more.

Jobs in Advice

Launching July 2009, Jobs in Advice is the brand new jobs web site for the entire advice sector. Managed by AdviceUK but with jobs from the entire sector this will quickly become the place to come for advice sector jobs. For more information keep an eye on www.jobsinadvice.org.uk

But we’re not an advice centre

Are you sure? Many charities support individuals and give them advice without even realising it. We might be able to help you help those people more efficiently and effectively as well as helping you partake in the national debate on the future of advice services for the public.

We are always happy to welcome new members.
