Ansvar Insurance- Insuring a better way of life
At Ansvar we have been creating specialist commercial insurance policies for the not-for-profit sector – churches, charities and voluntary organisations that make a positive contribution to society – for more than 50 years.

Ansvar means ‘responsibility’ in Swedish and we never forget that well-designed products, fast and sympathetic customer service, highly competitive pricing and a social concern are invaluable.
However, the rapidly changing and competitive business climate leaves little room for sentiment but for Ansvar being socially responsible means we share many ideals with those we insure and we don’t work with companies whose business revolves around alcohol, tobacco, gaming or armaments. Also, each year we donate a share of our profits to charities involved in alcohol and drug education and rehabilitation particularly for young people.

Today, Ansvar has developed to become a leading charity insurer in the UK and is now a business division of Ecclesiastical Insurance Office plc - specialists in risk management and insurance.
Committed to working through specialist insurance intermediaries, we never forget that well-designed products, fast and sympathetic customer service and highly competitive pricing are paramount. That’s because at Ansvar we know that only the highest professional standards will do.

Ansvar works with specialist intermediaries and is committed to:

  • Understanding and meeting the special insurance needs of the not-for-profit sector
  • Providing a tailored range of competitive products for charities, churches, voluntary groups and connected individuals
  • A clearly defined ethical trading and investment policy
  • Providing funds to reduce community problems relating to drug and alcohol misuse
  • Offering excellent personal service

Our policies reflect our understanding of the diverse and sometimes complex nature of risks and financial exposure churches, charities and other voluntary groups face today. Helping to manage and protect their assets through insurance is an essential part of providing good stewardship. With this in mind we have designed the Connect products, which are a wide range of policies especially designed for different types of groups and activities. Each product offers broad and flexible cover that churches, charities and other voluntary groups require. Products are packaged for simplicity and value, but we also recognise that each charity is unique and special so there is also choice to select exactly what is needed.

  • Charity Connect - is designed to offer a range of covers to meet the insurance needs of charities, voluntary and not-for-profit groups of all sizes and structures. This policy offers flexibility that allows further sections to be added with different levels of cover/indemnity/sums insured as appropriate.
  • Charity Shop Connect - it is important for charity shops to have the right kind of cover to protect such a valuable means of fundraising. The package options offer covers for both new and second hand goods.
  • Church Fellowship Connect - A flexible policy for churches meeting in hired or rented premises and taking into account the wide range of activities involved.
  • Community Group Connect - Public Liability and other optional cover for the activities of clubs, groups and societies, whether at their hired or rented premises or away from them.
  • Motor Connect-(Minibus)- Insurance for Minibuses owned by churches, charities and care homes.
  • Special Event Connect - for groups involved in organising or exhibiting at indoor and outdoor events.
  • Starter Connect (on-line only) - especially for smaller and start-up charities with an income of less than £25,000.
  • Trustees Financial Connect - is a policy which meets concerns commonly raised by trustees in respect of their financial liabilities.
  • Our Lifestyle Connect - policy is designed for individuals who are closely linked to the not-for-profit sector. Policies include Home and Motor and offer great value – including cumulative discounts up to 15% for church or charity involvement, non-smokers and non-drinkers.

What a difference a specialist makes
At Ansvar we don’t work with companies whose businesses revolve around alcohol, tobacco, gaming or armaments and that is why we have always made it a cornerstone of our ethical positioning to associate with responsible lifestyles. We give tangible support to individuals and organisations who work to reduce the harm that alcohol and drugs cause in society through donating a share of our profits to organisations involved in substance abuse education and rehabilitation. Such as:

  • Adfam - a drug and alcohol charity that supports family members by developing prevention programmes for carers, parents and other family members through drug education initiatives, increasing good practice, knowledge and expertise and engaging vulnerable family members.

  • Be Your Best Foundation - Rock Challenge UK is a series of performing arts events which promote healthy lifestyles for primary and secondary schools and colleges. This year over 25,000 children took part throughout the UK.
  • Coram - was founded more than 270 years ago by Captain Thomas Coram, a philanthropist who wanted to provide care for children left dying on London’s streets. Today their work includes an adoption service and family support programmes both of which have some of the highest success rates in the country.
  • Drugscope - is the national membership organisation for the drug sector and the UK’s leading independent centre of expertise on drugs and drug use. They provide a national voice for the drug sector, inform policy development and work with others to develop “joined up” responses to drug and alcohol problems.

  • Hope UK – a charity with a Christian foundation their Drug Educators work with people from all backgrounds including groups of other faiths and groups with none.

  • Mentor - is a non-government organisation working closely with “agents of prevention” such as parents, teachers and caregivers in various projects to educate young people in the UK on prevention of substance abuse.

Our ethical policy guidelines on trading and investments are derived from our specialisation within the church and charity sectors which are unique in the insurance world and have led Ansvar's to being described as a 'commercial organisation with a social concern.’
